Description: I feel the roots of Canadian paddling go back, way back to when birch bark canoes first touched the water... initially by the First Nations people, then by the Voyageurs and now modern paddlers and adventurers. Canoes were used as the workhorses of the North, often essential for survival and instrumental in the exploration and development of this land. More recently, they have come to be seen as purely recreational vehicles to fill our leisure time. I think that every style of canoeing incorporates a bit of all of these sources, maybe not at the same time but I think each blends into the other seamlessly. What I call Classic Solo Canoeing, sometimes also referred to as Omering or Canadian style paddling, centers on the practical aspects of canoeing. It's a well-rounded, relaxed, traditional paddling style providing you with all of the skills you need so you can travel safely for an afternoon paddle or a month long adventure into the wilderness.
