Zipidee sellers often ask how the video quality of their offerings can be improved. While the Zipidee website uses state of the art video encoding to produce the best quality video possible, it is impossible to make video on Zipidee look better than the source. Therefore, Zipidee sellers should do the best they can to ensure their content is of the best quality possible before they upload to Zipidee.
Basic Guidelines
Here are some basic guidelines for creating quality video to upload to Zipidee:
640 x 480 resolution: Zipidee currently offers video encoding and distribution at an image resolution of 640 pixels in width by 480 pixels in height, or what is generally considered standard definition in television. Some video formats use a resolution of 720 x 480 as standard definition. This has to do with individual pixel dimensions. If your source video is 720 x 480, please deliver your content to Zipidee with this resolution.
MPEG4 or H.264: MPEG4 is a widely used video codec that does a good job of balancing quality with file size (small file size is important for easy uploading and downloading). H.264 is the latest video codec based on the MPEG standard and offers the best quality encoding available. However, videos encoded as H.264 can take a long time to encode on older computers.
1000kbps bitrate: Bitrate, or data rate, is the amount of data or information processed per unit of time. For video, a higher bitrate generally translates to better quality video, but also a larger file size. Zipidee recommends that you encode videos you plan to sell through Zipidee at no less then 1000kbps.
Deinterlace - Most video formats that come from video cameras and tape source are interlaced. Interlace is a technique of improving the picture quality of a video signal by removing flicker that was necessary for older cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions. With the advent of computer monitors and HDTV, interlace is no longer recommended for video.
Interlacing can cause scenes in your video to appear as if they are "twittering." To avoid this, use the deinterlace option when exporting video for upload to Zipidee.
There are also many free software conversion tools such as those listed below. Please note that some of these offer a free trial period and include size and other limitations.
